Five Things for Tuesday, 10/20

1.  Comment redacted.

2.  I feel for Jim Zorn.  He has to feel helpless and emasculated as a bingo-caller five years out of the NFL takes over playcalling for a team where he doesn’t even know the players, playbook, or terminology.  I’d have quit if I were him, but he’s persevering because he wants to see the team succeed.  I admire that, and I admire him.  He’s still fired, of course.

3.  It’s tough sometimes when you read something awesome by another author in your preferred genre, and know you will never, ever write anything nearly as good.  It’s humbling and a little deflating.  Thankfully my wife is encouraging.  She asked me why I couldn’t write anything that good.  She believes in me, and that helps.  I won’t let it stop me from trying.

4.  Even after being married to a Pittsburgher for over 13 years, I have no idea what chip-chopped ham is.

5.  I heard a story on the radio this morning about a papa dog leading his pack – a female and their puppies – down the shoulder of a highway and down to the gates of an animal services office.  Speculation is that they were dumped there, but the lead dog calmly led them to safety.  I love animals, fiercely, and I hate the motherfuckers who act like they are property to be disposed of, no different than an old shoe.  Good for you, doggie daddy, even if you are part Chihuahua.
