Why Hello, Soreness, It’s Been Awhile

Hey, old buddy!  How are you doing?  Man, I can’t remember the last time you were around.  It’s been quite some time since I’ve felt that real true aching soreness that you bring!  I mean, when I was working out regularly, I barely noticed you at all – it was like you were around, you know, but kinda in the background.

Well, a few weeks off, and BAM!  You’re back, loud and proud, ain’tcha?  Hoo boy.  I forgot the joys and pleasure your presence brings around, like the complete inability to take my shirt off by raising my arms, the agony of stairs, the grimace of pain every time I stretch to reach for something.  Wow, it’s really great to see you again, really.

It’s great that you’re back, you know, because that means I’m working out hard and exercising those muscles – yep, even that one right there on the outside of my hip, the one I’d forgotten even existed – and I undoing all the atrophy that my time off has caused.  It’s really, really fine to see you.  Really.

Umm, look, I don’t honestly know how to say this without hurting your feelings, especially since you’ve been so long!  But, uh, you see, I look forward to you being more of a background presence again, not a true live-in roommate like you’re kind’ve acting like now.  I know that tomorrow, you and I will be spending a LOT of time together, especially when I first wake up to The Day Three Ache, but, you know, after that, I’ll probably not want to see you as much, so when you pull away, and your presence slowly diminishes again, I, uh, won’t be hurt.  In fact, I’ll be glad.  So, don’t take it personally, but after tomorrow, just remember to go back to that peripheral acquaintance that I like you to be.  OK?  OK, great.

Thanks.  I really enjoyed our talk.  Before I go, though, I need to tie my shoes, and I know you have a lot to say about that.  So here we go.
